Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa - DCE Kumawu

Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa is the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Sekyere Kumawu District in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He serves as the political and administrative head of the Sekyere Kumawu District Assembly, where he works with Assembly members, traditional authorities, government institutions, development partners and community stakeholders to promote development across the district.

Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama in May 2025 as the District Chief Executive nominee for the Sekyere Kumawu District. His nomination was part of the nominations made by the President for District Chief Executives across the Ashanti Region. The nominations were subject to confirmation by the respective District Assemblies.

The Sekyere Kumawu District Assembly subsequently confirmed Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa as District Chief Executive on 19 May 2025. According to the District Assembly, he received 29 votes out of the 36 Assembly members, representing 80.5 per cent of the total valid votes cast. Following his confirmation, he officially assumed responsibility for leading the Assembly and coordinating development activities within the district.

Background of Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa

Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa is associated with Kumawu-Bosomase in the Ashanti Region. He is also known publicly as Tom C. Information provided about his background indicates that he studied at the University of West London between 2003 and 2007.

As DCE, his responsibilities include supporting local governance, coordinating development programmes, supervising the implementation of Assembly policies and working with stakeholders to address the needs of communities within the Sekyere Kumawu District.

Education and Development

Education has featured among the areas of public engagement during his tenure. In June 2025, Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa visited Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) centres across the district and interacted with candidates and education stakeholders. During the visit, he highlighted the importance of education to the development of the district.

The District Assembly has also undertaken projects aimed at improving educational infrastructure. In March 2026, the Assembly, under the leadership of Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa, cut the sod for the construction and furnishing of an ultra-modern six-unit classroom block for Kumawu SDA Basic School. The project includes an office and a store and is intended to contribute to improved teaching and learning conditions.

Agriculture and the Feed Ghana Programme

Agriculture is another important area of development in the Sekyere Kumawu District. In 2025, Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa participated in activities connected to the Feed Ghana Programme, a government initiative aimed at increasing food production, supporting farmers and strengthening food security.

At a community engagement event, he encouraged farmers to take advantage of opportunities under the programme. The initiative focuses on supporting agricultural production, improving access to resources and strengthening farming as an important part of the local economy.

Support for Persons with Disabilities

Social welfare and inclusion have also formed part of the Assembly’s activities. In September 2025, the Sekyere Kumawu District Assembly supported 100 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) through financial assistance, medical support and educational assistance.

According to reports, 35 beneficiaries received financial support for business activities, 15 received medical assistance, while 20 students, including students in special schools and training colleges, received educational support. The intervention was presented as part of efforts to promote inclusion and improve the livelihoods of persons with disabilities in the district.

Tourism and Local Development

Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa has also been involved in discussions aimed at promoting tourism in the Sekyere Kumawu District. The district has natural, cultural and historical attractions that have potential to contribute to local economic development.

In July 2025, discussions involving the DCE and the Ashanti Regional Tourism Manager focused on ways to promote tourism in the district, including the development of attractions such as waterfalls and other sites. The discussions also considered how tourism could create opportunities for local communities and contribute to economic activity.

Leadership and Community Engagement

As DCE, Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa has also participated in engagements with traditional authorities and other stakeholders. Shortly after his confirmation, he paid a working visit to the Kumawu Traditional Council to officially introduce himself in accordance with traditional protocol.

His role also extends to district security and public administration. In September 2025, he signed a statement as Chairman of the Sekyere Kumawu District Security Council (DISEC) concerning reports about security in Kumawu. The statement said the district remained peaceful and that the Council continued to work with the relevant security agencies to maintain law and order.
