The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Sekyere Kumawu District, Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa, has received an award from the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Ashanti Region, in recognition of his efforts towards promoting and developing tourism in the district.
The recognition was presented to the Kumawu DCE as an acknowledgement of his contribution to tourism promotion and his efforts to draw greater attention to the tourism potential of the Sekyere Kumawu District.
Since assuming office as the District Chief Executive, Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa has shown interest in the development and promotion of tourism within the district. His efforts have included advocating for the improvement, rebranding and promotion of tourist attractions to make them more appealing to visitors and the wider public.

Sekyere Kumawu District is home to a number of tourist attractions with the potential to contribute to the local economy and promote the cultural heritage of the area. Among these attractions are the Bomfobiri Wildlife Sanctuary, Bomfobiri Falls and Bahankra Waterfalls, which continue to serve as important natural assets within the district.
The Bomfobiri Wildlife Sanctuary, in particular, is known for its natural environment and wildlife resources, while Bomfobiri Falls provides a scenic attraction for visitors. Bahankra Waterfalls is another natural attraction that adds to the tourism potential of the district.
Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa has emphasised the need to make these attractions more attractive and accessible to visitors. As part of his efforts, he has engaged with officials and representatives of the Ghana Tourism Authority to seek support, technical guidance and ideas on how tourism can be developed and promoted more effectively in Sekyere Kumawu.
The collaboration is aimed at identifying ways to improve the presentation and promotion of tourist sites while creating greater awareness of the attractions available in the district.
The DCE believes that tourism has the potential to contribute significantly to the development of communities and the country as a whole. According to him, well-developed tourist attractions can help generate revenue, create employment opportunities and provide economic opportunities for people living in communities where the attractions are located.
He has therefore encouraged stakeholders to pay greater attention to tourism and explore ways of transforming the sector into an important contributor to local development.

Tourism can also help promote the cultural identity of communities. Sekyere Kumawu has a rich traditional and cultural heritage, and the promotion of its tourist attractions could provide opportunities for visitors to learn more about the history, traditions and cultural practices of the area.
The award from the Ghana Tourism Authority, Ashanti Region, therefore comes at a time when efforts are being made to increase attention to the tourism potential of the Sekyere Kumawu District.
Hon. Kwasi Amankwaa expressed his appreciation for the honour and gratitude for the support and recognition received along the journey. He noted that the recognition encouraged him to continue working towards the promotion of tourism and the development of the district.
The DCE also expressed his excitement about the recognition and the opportunity to contribute to elevating Kumawu’s vibrant culture and tourism potential to a wider audience.
He stressed the importance of working together with relevant institutions, traditional authorities, community members and other stakeholders to develop tourist sites and make them more attractive to both domestic and international visitors.
