The Sekyere Kumawu Education Directorate, also known as the Kumawu District Education Office, is one of the key government institutions responsible for the administration and supervision of education within the Sekyere Kumawu District in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
The Education Directorate is located in Kumawu, the district capital. The office is situated between the Ghana National Ambulance Service and the Ghana National Fire Service, and it is also located near the Kumawu Cemetery off Kumawu – Effiduase Road. Its location makes it accessible to teachers, headteachers, learners, parents, education stakeholders and members of the public who need to visit the office for educational and administrative matters.
District Director of Education
The current District Director of Education for the Sekyere Kumawu District is Mr. Kwame Oduro-Owusu. As the head of the Directorate, the District Director provides leadership and direction for the effective administration and management of education within the district.
The District Director works closely with heads of departments and other officers at the Education Directorate to ensure that educational policies and programmes are effectively implemented in schools across the district.
Mr. Kwame Oduro-Owusu is supported by four key frontline heads who assist in the administration and coordination of various areas of the Directorate’s operations.
These departments include Human Resource Management and Development (HRMD), Finance and Administration (F&A), Statistics and Planning (EMIS), and Supervision and Monitoring (S&M).
Each of these areas plays an important role in ensuring the smooth running of the Education Directorate and the effective delivery of educational services throughout the district.
The Human Resource Management and Development (HRMD) unit deals with matters relating to personnel, staff records, human resource development and other issues concerning teachers and education staff.
The Finance and Administration (F&A) unit supports the Directorate in financial and administrative matters, helping to ensure that resources and administrative activities are properly managed.
The Statistics and Planning (EMIS) section is responsible for educational data and planning-related activities. Accurate educational data is important for planning, monitoring school enrolment and supporting decisions concerning education development.
The Supervision and Monitoring (S&M) section plays an important role in monitoring teaching and learning activities and supporting schools to improve educational outcomes.
Education Services in Sekyere Kumawu
The Kumawu Education Office supervises and coordinates academic activities involving teachers and learners in schools across the district. Its responsibilities cover both basic schools and senior high schools within its jurisdiction.
The Directorate works with school heads, teachers and other stakeholders to support effective teaching and learning. It also monitors educational activities and encourages schools to comply with relevant policies and standards of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The Sekyere Kumawu District has more than 90 public and private basic schools, as well as nine senior high schools, comprising public and private institutions, according to information availabe.

This vision places emphasis on improving teaching and learning while encouraging teachers, school leaders, learners and other stakeholders to work together towards better educational outcomes.
Academic excellence, however, extends beyond classroom performance. Learners in the Sekyere Kumawu District also participate in various extracurricular activities that contribute to their overall development.
Students in the district have demonstrated abilities in areas such as sports, debates, choreography and other extracurricular activities. These activities provide learners with opportunities to develop confidence, teamwork, leadership skills, creativity and discipline.
