The Sekyere Kumawu District Assembly (SKDA) Office is located along the Kumawu–Kwamang–Pepease Road, approximately a one-minute drive after Tweneboa Kodua Senior High School when travelling from Kumawu.
The Sekyere Kumawu District is one of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, with Kumawu serving as the District Capital. The District is located in the eastern part of the Ashanti Region and is approximately 54 kilometres north-east of Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Capital.
About Sekyere Kumawu District
The Sekyere Kumawu District was established in 2012 as part of Ghana’s decentralisation and local governance system. The District covers an estimated land area of 1,500.60 square kilometres, representing approximately 6.2% of the total land area of the Ashanti Region.
The District is located between Latitudes 0°20′ and 1°20′ North and Longitudes 0°45′ and 1°15′ West. It shares boundaries with Sekyere Central District to the west, Sekyere East District to the north, Asante Akim North Municipality to the south-west, and Sekyere Afram Plains District to the south.
Politically, the District has one constituency and 25 Electoral Areas. The District Assembly is made up of 38 members, comprising the District Chief Executive, the Member of Parliament and Assembly Members, including elected members and government appointees.
Population
According to the 2020 Population and Housing Census, the Sekyere Kumawu District had a total population of 64,396. Of this number, 30,890, representing 48%, were males, while 33,506, representing 52%, were females.
The population distribution between urban and rural areas was 33,652 people (52.3%) living in urban areas and 30,744 people (47.7%) living in rural areas.
The District’s population is projected to increase in the coming years, reflecting its continuing development and population growth.

Traditional Authority
Traditionally, the District has one Paramountcy, namely the Kumawu Traditional Council. Traditional authorities play an important role in the development of their respective communities. They also contribute to maintaining peace, resolving disputes and promoting the welfare of people within their traditional jurisdictions.
Agriculture and Economic Potential
The Sekyere Kumawu District has extensive arable land suitable for the cultivation of both food and cash crops. Major crops cultivated in the area include cocoa, oil palm, coconut, maize and cassava, among others.
Agriculture remains an important economic activity in the District, with a significant proportion of the working population engaged in agriculture and related activities. The District also has economic potential in areas such as tourism, housing, agriculture and climate-change interventions.
The relatively peaceful nature of the District provides an environment where residents can conduct their lawful activities and pursue economic opportunities.
